State: Meghalaya (also known as the “abode of clouds”)

Attractions: Mawlynnong located in Khasi village and popular as God’s own garden. Umlam Lake, Elephant falls are formed by three small waterfalls into one, Mawsynram is the wettest place on the earth named because of the heavy rainfall throughout the year. Heart stopping view and best for the nature’s lover is Shillong Peak, Wards lake gives you the best experience, it is artificial lake having gardens all around. Garo, Khasi and Jaintia hills popular for its flora and fauna – great place to explore every inch, Mawphlang, Jakrem falls known for its medicinal properties. There are lots of other natural falls and museums which are popular tourist attractions.

Nearest Airport: Umroi or Shillong airport located at 30km from the center of the city and connected well to other major cities of India.

Bus Service: Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) controlled the bus services in Meghalaya and well connected to other cities like Guwahati, Silchar etc. Taxi services are also available to explore the city.

Nearest Railway Station: There are no such proper rail lines in Shillong and nearest railway station is Guwahati railway station which is 105 km away. From Guwahati taxi and bus services are available to reach Shillong.

Food: Jadoh – yellow rice made with pork, Tungrumbai, Momos made with pork or chicken, Tung – black bean sauce, Kyat is local wine, Putharao made with rice served as snack, ktung – dry fish are some of the traditional food of Sikkim.

Best Time to Visit: Predominant season to visit city is summer that is from April to June. In monsoon one may face heavy rainfall and in winters temperature falls too much.
