Ganesh Tok is Ganesha’s temple and so small that one has to crawl to reach there. Tsongmo Lake is holy lake and worshipped by Sikkimese people. Ban Jhakri Falls is popular for its lush green surroundings, Kanchenjunga is the third highest peak in the world and Mangan is famous for trekking.
Nearest Airport: Due to the rough terrain of the city Sikkim doesn’t have its own airport. Nearest airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra located in Siliguri, West Bengal that is 124km away from the center of the city. From Bagdogra, there are regular helicopters for the travelers of Sikkim.
Bus Service: One can take buses or taxi from Siliguri to explore Gangtok. Sikkim National Transport handles the operation of running buses. Taxi and Cab services are also available.
Nearest Railway Station: Gangtok doesn’t have its own railway station. Nearest railway station is in New Jalpaiguri near Siliguri. It is 148km away from Gangtok. It is well connected by the cities of Kolkata and New Delhi.
Food: Momos are very popular and can be available at every second street. Thukpa noodles, Thenthuk, Sael Roti – rice dish with tomato gravy, Churpi, Kinema curry and Tomato pickle are some of the popular dishes of Gangtok.
Best Time to Visit: Predominant season to visit city is winters. The climate is just awesome to explore the fascinating valleys and giant mountains. One can enjoy trekking. Summers are not also very hot.
